FAQ
Is this the original perfume?
No. Every scent in our library is our own blend, inspired by a fragrance you may know. Each has its own name and a short code so it is yours, and you can search by a perfume you already wear to find the closest in our library. We are not affiliated with the brands referenced.
I wear a perfume you do not list. Can you help?
Yes. Type it into Scents like the one you wear and we will show you the scents in our library that share the most notes with it, or find your feeling on our scent map.
Who makes it?
Every order is measured, blended and bottled by hand to order in Abu Dhabi, one at a time, and checked before it leaves.
How strong is it?
You choose. Every scent comes in three strengths, all at the same price: Eau de Parfum at 20% perfume oil, our lightest; Parfum at 30%; and Extrait at 40%, our richest. A richer strength tends to last longer, but the notes matter just as much: fresh and citrus scents fade sooner at any strength, while woods, ambers and ouds stay longer. Richer strengths often sit closer to the skin rather than projecting further. Skin, climate and how much you apply play a part too. See Concentration, explained.
What do Eau de Parfum, Parfum and Extrait mean?
They are trade names for how much perfume oil is in the bottle, from lighter to richer. No law or international standard fixes a percentage to them, so they vary between houses; the ranges usually quoted are 15 to 20% for Eau de Parfum and 20 to 40% for Parfum or Extrait. Ours are exactly 20%, 30% and 40%.
Which strength should I choose for a fresh scent?
Fresh, citrus and aquatic notes evaporate fastest, so a richer strength, Parfum or Extrait, can help them last a little longer. Rich ambers and ouds already linger, so Eau de Parfum or Parfum can feel more balanced, especially in summer.
Will it mark my clothes?
Our perfumes are rich in oil, the more so at Extrait. Spray onto skin rather than delicate or pale fabrics, and let it dry before dressing, as oils can mark silk and light materials.
Which size should I choose?
30 ml to try something new or for travel, 50 ml for everyday wear, 100 ml for a scent you already love. Unsure? Start with a discovery set.
Is there a sample with my order?
Yes. A complimentary 2 ml sample from The Edit comes with every order, so you can explore another fragrance family.
What is the code on the label?
Every scent has a short code, such as C2.A1. It is our internal catalogue reference, printed on your label with the strength you chose. Tell us the code and strength and we can make it again exactly.
Can I blend scents?
Yes, on 50 ml and 100 ml, for AED 15. Choose two, three or four scents and the balance between them, in steps of 10%, then one strength for the whole blend. We suggest a partner for every scent, or you can choose your own. Blends are made exactly as you choose; two scents you love will not always love each other, so if you are unsure, start with our suggestion.
Is my blend saved?
Yes. Your blend and its strength are printed on the card in your box and kept in your order history, so you can return to it or use it as a starting point for something new.
Can I change my bottle or strength when I reorder?
Yes. The scent, strength, size, bottle and cap are separate choices every time.
Are the bottle and cap included?
Yes. The price depends on the size only, and you can choose any strength, bottle and cap at no extra cost. Not sure which bottle to pick? Browse the bottle gallery.
Can I order a discovery set first?
Yes. A discovery set is five 10 ml bottles, made at Extrait strength (40%). Choose all five yourself, or pick a curated set by family, by note (such as Rose, Jasmine, Saffron or Vanilla) or by character (such as After Dark or Crisp & Classic). The Edit Discovery Set holds all twelve scents of The Edit: one from each fragrance family, plus The Classic.
Can I add a message?
Yes: a customised ribbon (AED 20) with up to 100 characters, tied to a 30, 50 or 100 ml bottle, or a handwritten message card (AED 5) in the box, with any bottle or discovery set.
Is it alcohol based?
Yes, in perfumer's alcohol.
Allergies and sensitive skin?
Every scent page lists the fragrance allergens we may use, and the ones present in your scent are printed on its label. If you have sensitive skin, test on a small patch first, or choose Eau de Parfum, which has less perfume oil.
How fast is delivery?
Every order is blended and packed by hand, one at a time. Orders are usually dispatched within two working days, then delivered within one to three working days in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and two to four in the other emirates.
Can I return my order?
Because every order is made for you, we cannot accept returns for a change of mind. If it arrives wrong or damaged, send a photo to info@scentometry.com within 48 hours and we will put it right.
Do you deliver outside the UAE?
Not yet. We deliver across the UAE only.
Can you supply an event or a company?
Yes. Wedding favours, corporate gifts and event scents from 20 pieces, with your own choice of scent, strength, size and bottle. See Private & Corporate.
Where do new scents come from?
The Edit changes regularly, and new scents join the library over time. Tell us the feelings, notes and perfumes you love and your answers help us choose what comes next. Join The Scentometry List to hear first.
